reality yoga
Last night I got to see my favorite band, Over The Rhine, at an acoustic show celebrating what they call "Reality Christmas." Reality Christmas music, like most Christmas music, asks big questions about humanity, peace on earth, and good will. It celebrates light and joy. But it's also slightly off-center, with lyrics like "It would take a miracle to get me out to a shopping mall" that leave you chuckling. And, as the word "Reality" might indicate, it leaves space for sorrow and grief and stress too.
It got me thinking that this is also what I hope to offer to you through my yoga classes. I want yoga with me to be a place where you feel comfortable and calm, but I also want you to feel like you can bring your whole self. Sometimes when you start class you may be able to drop right into zen, and sometimes you may notice that you feel grumpy, or distracted, or worried, or tired, or hungry. That's okay by me. Reality Yoga.
