Hi, I’m Rachel
Who am I?
I am a Registered Yoga Teacher with over 500 hours of training. My passion is making yoga accessible for people of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds, and abilities—particularly people who have not felt welcome in other movement classes.
As a young adult, I dabbled in yoga with a college class and home videos. In 2016, I started to practice in earnest and explore yoga in studios. I learned that many “beginner” classes still expected students who were fully-abled and physically fit. As a middle-aged, overweight person with chronic illness and invisible disabilities, I struggled to find a yoga class that felt welcoming to me.
When I finally found yoga classes where I felt welcome, it was life-changing. I became stronger, more flexible, and more balanced, and I felt all these changes both on and off the mat. I teach yoga so I can pay forward the wonderful benefits I receive as a student of yoga.
In addition to teaching Polaris Yoga and practicing independently, I continue to study yoga to make it more accessible to others. My training has included the anatomical analysis of hundreds of different bodies. I have explored how poses show up differently in each person. My goal is to teach you how to safely explore body movement and empower you to find your own personal expression of each pose.

Who are you?
Everyone is welcome in my class. I particularly want to welcome folks who have felt yoga was not “for” them or felt they were not welcomed in class. The yoga classes I offer are gently paced and structured to allow for variations in poses and props. There will be room for more challenge or more comfort as suits you on that particular day.
Maybe you’re afraid to start yoga because it looks intimidating. Maybe getting up and down off the floor is hard for you. Maybe you’re not super flexible and worry you don’t “qualify” for yoga because you can’t, for example, touch your toes. You are welcome!
Maybe you’ve already tried yoga and found that the teacher called out pose names without explaining how to position your body. Or maybe the teacher explained ways to position your body that made no sense in your body or that hurt when you tried. Maybe the teacher called poses “restful” that were actually quite challenging or uncomfortable for you. I’m sorry about that, and you deserve better. You are welcome here.
Maybe you’re an experienced yogi and you can hold your own in conventional classes - you’re still welcome! My class is great for folks who want a gentle practice that focuses on alignment or who want to review the fundamentals.
If anything I’m saying is resonating, then I am creating my classes with you in mind. Everyone is welcome in my class. I particularly want to welcome folks who have felt yoga was not “for” them.
Yoga is for everyone. If you have a body, no matter that body’s condition, you can do yoga. I invite you to join me!
